DLA Piper has today (14 June) announced the return of former partner Senator George J Mitchell as chairman emeritus and ex officio member of the firm's global board.

Senator Mitchell served as a partner and chairman of the global board from 2003 to 2008 before leaving the firm in 2009 upon his appointment by President Barack Obama to serve as US special envoy for Middle East peace.

Also a former chairman of Walt Disney, Senator Mitchell will work with DLA Piper's leaders on global client development and management as well as strategic initiatives such as succession planning. He will also advise on significant arbitration and mediation projects.

Prior to DLA Piper, Senator Mitchell spent 14 years in the Senate, during which he was instrumental in leading the passage of the North American Free Trade Act.
