Western Sydney firm Coleman Greig Lawyers has announced its acquisition of Parramatta based Robilliard & Robilliard, effective 9 January 2012.

Coleman managing principal, Peter Stewart, said the acquisition would benefit both firms' clients and consolidate Coleman Greig's position in the greater western Sydney region.

Coleman will employ all of the Robilliard & Robilliard professional staff as well as most of their support staff.

The former principals and owners of the firm, Rick Chadwick and Owen Nicol, will join the Coleman Greig property team as consultants, and lawyer George Angelinas will become a member of the litigation and dispute resolution team.

Stewart could not comment on the purchase price of Robilliard & Robilliard but said that "acquisition talks" had been on the horizon for "12 months or more".

"It seemed like a nice fit...we didn't target them, we're happy to look at any firm that is able to achieve what we want," said Grieg, adding that being a "local firm" and "quite small", Robilliard's integration would be "relatively easy".

"In recent years we have established a good working relationship with Robilliard & Robilliard and often received referrals for matters in which they do not have the required expertise.

Stewart added that no further acquisitions were currently in the pipeline.

Rick Chadwick said that the acquisition will benefit Robilliard & Robilliard clients in the long term.

"Succession planning is a major consideration for many smaller legal practices, including the question of how best to meet client needs into the future. By merging with Coleman Greig, we have ensured that our clients continue to receive access to a wide range of services," said Chadwick.

Coleman Greig advises clients in commercial law, property law, family law, business migration, employment law, business succession planning, debt recovery, wills and estate planning and public notary services.
