NSW Supreme Court appoints 3 judges
Three new appointments have been made to the Supreme Court of NSW, with the new judges bringing almost a century of experience to their new roles.

Barristers Elisabeth Peden SC and Mark Richmond SC have been appointed as judges in the Supreme Court, and Jeremy Kirk SC has been appointed as a judge and judge of appeal.

Dr Peden SC comes from Third Floor Wentworth Chambers, where she currently specialises in contract, property and equity law. She commences her new role on 6 April.
Mr Richmond SC currently practices at Eleven Wentworth Chambers, where he specialises in taxation, commercial and administrative law. He commences in the Supreme Court on 19 April, filling a vacancy following the retirement of Justice Nigel Rein on 18 March.
Mr Kirk SC also practises at Eleven Wentworth Chambers, where he specialises in administrative, commercial and constitutional law. He will commence on the Court of Appeal bench on 21 April and will fill a vacancy after the retirement of Justice John Basten on 16 April.
Attorney-General Mark Speakman congratulated the judges on their new roles.
“Mr Richmond alone has been practising law for more than four decades with successful cases in the High, Federal and Supreme courts. Dr Peden has also worked on high profile cases in the High, Federal and Supreme courts and brings with her almost three decades of legal experience, including as a professor of law at the University of Sydney,” he said.
“Mr Kirk was admitted to the bar 20 years ago and has practised nationally, in both trials and appeals, including many notable cases. He joins the Court of Appeal, which is widely regarded as the strongest state or territory appellate court in Australia.
“We are fortunate to have this trio of outstanding legal practitioners serve the people of NSW in these important roles in the justice system.”
