NSW District Court judge sworn in
The NSW government has announced the appointment of a new District Court judge.

Last week NSW Attorney-General Gabrielle Upton revealed barrister Matthew Dicker SC will be sworn into the NSW District Court today, replacing Judge Michael Elkaim SC who was recently appointed as a judge of the ACT Supreme Court.

Mr Dicker was admitted to the NSW Bar Association in 1993 and has since appeared in hundreds of civil cases in state and federal courts at appellate, trial and interlocutory levels.
He has previously worked in the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department, providing legal services to ministers, statutory authorities and government departments.
Mr Dicker has also served as a Federal Court judge’s associate and a litigation solicitor in a top-tier private law firm, and took silk in 2012.
Over the past 12 months, Mr Dicker has worked as a part-time senior member of the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT), presiding over a range of significant disputes.
“Mr Dicker has had an extensive and distinguished legal career in civil law spanning three decades, and I congratulate him on his appointment to this important role of providing civil justice in the NSW District Court,” Ms Upton said.
Mr Dicker’s appointment comes after the NSW government recently announced Robert Montgomery as a District Court judge.
Mr Montgomery was sworn into the NSW District Court in May and brings 30 years of experience in civil law to the bench, including commercial and insurance law.
Mr Montgomery commenced practice as a solicitor in 1980 and was called to the bar in 1985. He has appeared before the High Court, the Court of Appeal and the Full Court of the Federal Court in numerous litigation matters.
