JWS makes 9 new promotions for new FY

Independent law firm Johnson Winter & Slattery has promoted one new partner, three special counsels and five senior associates for the start of the new financial year.

Managing partner Peter Slattery congratulated the lawyers on their promotions and said that building a strong platform and capabilities has been a strategic focus for the firm, both through internal promotions and lateral hires. 

“All of these lawyers have demonstrated technical ability, commercial acumen and a willingness to support and develop the team around them. On behalf of all members of the firm we wish each of them well in their new role,” he said.

Kathryn Bertram will join the partnership in the firm’s taxation practice. Ms Bertram specialises in state taxes, tax audits and litigation.

In her current role as special counsel, Ms Bertram has played a key role in coordinating the marketing and learning efforts of the national tax team according to the firm. Ms Betram joined the firm as a senior associate in 2014. 

Rena Solomonidis, dispute resolution, Andrew Ricciardi, corporate, energy and resources and Ken Chan, intellectual property and IT have been promoted to special counsel.

Ms Solomonidis specialises in litigating large-scale commercial disputes in the context of corporate insolvency, contractual disputes, property matters and trade practices claims. She joined the firm as a senior associate in 2014. 

She has taken an active role in client and marketing initiatives, as well as mentoring and developing junior lawyers.

Mr Ricciardi is a corporate lawyer who specialises in corporate transactions within the energy and resources sector. He assists clients in advising on a range of issues, including equity capital market transactions, fundraising, corporate compliance issues, corporate governance, and public and private mergers and acquisitions.

Mr Chan is an intellectual property and technology specialist experienced in providing corporate and transactional advisory legal support for national and global corporations, particularly in the technology and health industries.

He regularly negotiates and drafts technology licensing and procurement agreements, cloud agreements, professional services and software or hardware support/maintenance contracts on behalf of clients.
