Linklaters acted as lead adviser to Air France in the airline’s merger with KLM, creating the world’s largest airline by turnover, after the airlines received clearance from the European Commission. The firm said this deal paved the way for further consolidation of the European airline industry. The remedies package which has been agreed with the Commission consists primarily of improved access to take-off and landing slots for new entrants. The Linklaters EU/Competition team advising Air France was led by Olivier d’Ormesson, a partner based in Paris, and Paul McGeown, a senior associate in Brussels. They were assisted by Mathieu Guillaumond, Charles Pommiès, Philippe Noguès and Helen Crossley.

Pillsbury Winthrop represented the underwriter, Goldman, Sachs & Co. in a US$875,000,008 ($1.12 billion) public offering of 19,063,181 shares of common stock of Ameren Corporation. Ameren Corporation is a public utility holding company based in St. Louis, Missouri. The transaction closed on February 6, 2004.

Allen & Overy in Bangkok has advised Royal Dutch Shell on the sale of its exploration and production assets in Thailand to PTT Exploration and Production Public Co. Ltd. (PTTEP). Royal Dutch Shell and PTTEP signed an agreement on 30th December last year to buy 100 percent of Thai Shell Exploration and Production Limited owned by Royal Dutch Shell together with the assignment of a related concession. The deal was completed on 29 January. The team comprised partner and head of the Bangkok Corporate Group Simon Makinson, partner and head of the Bangkok Litigation Group Dumnern Subpaisarn, and associates Sarah Canning-Jones, Sarayut Jitprasertngam and Ron Kirschner. Herbert Smith acted for PTTEP.
