HSF strengthens pro bono offering with new role
Global law firm Herbert Smith Freehills is expanding its pro bono capabilities with the addition of a new position of pro bono counsel (Australia).
Bianca Janovic has been named in the new role, which came into effect on 12 April 2021. Ms Janovic has been at HSF for a decade, having kicked off a role at the firm’s Melbourne office before relocating to Brisbane where she specialised in disputes. During this time she has taken a lead role in some of the firm’s most sensitive, complex and impactful pro bono and reconciliation initiatives.

The appointment of Ms Janovic serves to drive HSF’s “strategic direction” of its local pro bono practice. Working closely with HSF partner and global head of pro bono Brooke Massender, Ms Janovic will lead the firm’s Australia-based pro bono team, as the pair work in alignment with the firm’s global pro bono strategy and embark on a series of projects to promote equal access to justice and opportunity.
“Brooke Massender and I are delighted that Bianca has accepted this position, and know she will strengthen our hugely impactful pro bono team,” said partner and chair of Herbert Smith Freehills’ global pro bono and citizenship council Sue Gilchrist.
“Bianca is widely recognised within the firm, and by clients, for her unique pallet of intellect, drive, curiosity, energy and compassion.
“She is a role model to many, with a strong sense of justice and a commitment to inclusion which exemplifies our values.”
