NSW Supreme Court welcomes two new hires
A Chief Judge in equity and a judge of appeal have been added to the Supreme Court, Attorney-General Mark Speakman announced.
Justice David Hammerschlag will step into the role of Chief Justice in equity, while Sydney barrister Anna Mitchelmore SC will start as a judge of appeal.

Mr Speakman commented: “Justice Hammerschlag and Ms Mitchelmore have distinguished legal careers and decades of collective wisdom between them.
“The NSW justice system is fortunate to have practitioners of such standing serving on the bench of our Supreme Court.”
Justice Hammerschlag started his legal career in South Africa before requalifying in NSW. He was called to the NSW bar in 1991, was appointed senior counsel in 2000 and started at the Supreme Court in 2007, where he presided over corporate matters.
Ms Mitchelmore was admitted in 2000, called to the NSW bar in 2004 and appointed senior counsel in 2018. She has been a part-time commissioner of the NSW Law Reform Commission and has broad experience in administrative law, constitutional law, criminal law, local government and environmental law.
