Incoming president of the Law Society of South Australia, Richard Mellows, outlines his key priorities in 2010.

Mellows says the focus at the local level will be to encourage the movement of the state's model legislation of the regulation of the legal profession through State Parliament.

While he is concerned the COAG process could mean two lots of reform for SA, he says the society recognises the need for the state to modernise its own professional regulations.

He will also be addressing the need to ensure the profession in the state is able to access work that is generated in SA, in both the public and private sectors, because currently a lot of the work available is going interstate.
