HopgoodGanim family law partner, Geoff Wilson, has been appointed to an international family law association.

An accredited family law specialist and partner in HopgoodGanim's Brisbane practice, Wilson has been named the parliamentarian of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers for 2012.

The academy, formed in 1986, aims to improve international family law practice throughout the world. Its membership includes over 580 fellows across 43 international jurisdictions.

Wilson said that with world-wide increases in migration, the demand for expertise in his specialist area is growing. He hopes to foster a greater understanding internationally of Australia's family law system and environment.

"People living in Australia often own property and other assets both here and overseas, and have ties with other countries...in many instances, my clients have been married before," said Wilson.

"A big part of my job is working in tandem with colleagues in other countries to bring both pre and post-nuptial agreements together and to ensure they meet the requirements of the various jurisdictions they cover."

Wilson has been a fellow of the Academy since 2008 and has been invited to present at a number of its international family law conferences.
