IN-HOUSE LAWYERS have voted Mallesons Stephen Jaques the Australian Law Firm of the Year in the 2009 PLC Which Lawyer? Global Awards.

Mallesons has picked up the award for the seventh year running, with Minter Ellison and Allens Arthur Robinson coming in as joint runners-up.

More than 5500 in-house counsel from around the world were invited to vote online, with awards presented to the top law firms in different regions around the world.

Voters were free to nominate a firm of their choice or to pick from a shortlist compiled by the PLC Which Lawyer? Team. PLC Which Lawyer? said Mallesons won by a "sizeable margin". One voter commented: "The consistency of high calibre legal work, high client focus and strategic thinking make MSJ hard to beat".

Other winners included Clifford Chance, which was named International Law Firm of the Year; Baker & McKenzie, winning for Asia, Latin America and the Middle East; Linklaters, winning in the UK; and Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom, which picked up the award for the US.

The PLC Which Lawyer? Team also publish an annual yearbook which analyses the legal market in 100 countries and ranks law firms and individual lawyers in core practice areas.
