Corrs Chambers Westgarth partner Thomas Jones, who also happens to be a talented violinist, will take part in the concert on the afternoon of 21 November.

Prior to his career as a lawyer, Jones was a full-time musician, studying first at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and playing lead violin for the Sydney Youth Orchestra. He then undertook a Bachelor and Masters of Music at Indiana University in the United States.

He has also played violin in many orchestras throughout the United States, most notably as the lead violinist for the Atlanta Chamber Players, the lead ensemble in the Southeast of America.

A highlight of Jones' music career was his time spent as a student of the late Josef Gingold, who has been described by The Smithsonian magazine as "the best living teacher of violin technique and repertoire in the world today".

Gingold was a friend and student of one of the most famous violin masters of our time, Fritz Kreisler, and under Gingold's guidance, Jones said he absorbed the legacy of Kreisler's work. Jones later released a CD, A Kreisler Celebration, under the label Move Records, dedicated to Kreisler's work.

Jones said his passion for music, and the chance to express his creative side, complements his day-to-day life as a partner at Corrs.

"The law can seem quite dry, lawyers sometimes think inside the square when working on matters. I find that having music as a creative outlet allows me to think outside the square and approach the law in a creative manner to come up with better legal solutions."

The concert was arranged by Jones' wife, who plays the flute, and is supported by New Music Network, an organisation dedicated to the presentation and promotion of contemporary music in Australia.
