Three law firms have been selected as finalists in the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency's (EOWA) 2011 Business Achievement Awards (BAA).

Lawyers from Henry Davis York, Maddocks and Norton Rose Australia have each been selected in categories which each aim to commend organisations and individuals that have demonstrated their commitment to advancing women in the workplace.

Maddocks Melbourne corporate partner Philip Jones, and Sally Macindoe, the Chairman of Norton Rose Australia and national leader of the environment and planning practice, have been selected as finalists in the category of Diversity Leader for the Advancement of Women.

Henry Davis York has been selected in the category of Leading Organisation for the Advancement of Women (less than 800 employees), recognising the firm's high percentage of female partners (28 per cent as at 30 September), special counsel (75 per cent), and senior associates (59 per cent).

Maddocks was also selected as a finalist for the Minister's Award for Outstanding EEO Initiative/Result for the Advancement of Women.

BAA winners are announced at a CEO event in November, which provides an opportunity to inspire Australian business leaders to take action to improve outcomes for women in business.

The event attracts a diverse range of CEOs and senior executives from the Australian private sector who will hear about the initiatives of leading organisations and learn how they too can achieve better business outcomes by supporting their female employees.

Last year Shine Lawyers took out the Minister's Award for Outstanding EEO Initiative/Result for the Advancement of Women.

Winners of the 2011 BAA will be announced on 9 November.
