Finding  staff that that will fit in ranks well above technical skills and salary for employers and candidates, according to a report by Hays.

The latest Hays Quarterly Report, released on 3 April, has revealed a growing desire amongst employers and candidates for a good cultural fit, above salary and skill-set considerations.

While candidates are increasingly seeking roles at organisations they believe to have the right culture for them, employers are seeking candidates who they believe can easily integrate into existing teams and are more likely to be retained long term, based on the belief that technical skills can be taught but cultural fit cannot.

“We’ve seen several cases of candidates turning down job offers because they didn’t feel the company culture reflected their long-term career goals,” said Hays director Nick Deligiannis.

“Employers meanwhile are also considering not only a candidate’s technical skills but their cultural and team fit. We have seen many cases where an employer will train a candidate in the necessary technical skills if they are otherwise the right cultural fit for the business. This trend is occurring across both the private and public sectors and for candidates from accountancy to human resources and office support.”

According to the Hays Quarterly Report for April to June, lawyers in the banking and finance, commercial, technology, and IT and IP areas are in demand, as well as employment and industrial lawyers, personal injury and insurance lawyers, commercial property lawyers, and occupational health and safety lawyers.
