EIGHT partners have left Ashurst in just over a month.

A just reported exodus from Ashurst is far from a ringing endorsement for the firm's recently announced alliance with Australian firm Blake Dawson.

Legal Week reports Ashurst litigator Wilson Thorburn is leaving the firm for JP Morgan, where he will take the top post in the litigation practice for EMEA.

But as UK legal gossip site Roll on Friday reports, there has been a string of recently departures at the firm, a count of eight partners in six weeks.

Among those departing are Michael Madden, who moves to Winston & Strawn, real estate funds partners David Evans and Samantha Lake Coghlan to Goodwin Procter, construction partner Marc Hanson to BLP, employee incentives partner Barbara Allen to Stephenson Harwood, NY finance partner Alice Yurke to Jones Day, and real estate partner Simon Cookson to DLA Piper, RollonFriday reports.

The firm itself told Roll on Friday the tie-up with Blake Dawson is "moving forward very well", and noted that partners move on for many reasons. A spokesperson also said the firm has appointed 49 partners and 26 laterals in the past two years.
