Corporate partner Matthew Johnson (pictured) has left Clayton Utz to join Hogan Lovells’ M&A and equity capital markets operations in its Perth office.

Mr Johnson will continue to focus on private and public M&A, private equity, ECM and corporate advisory work, in addition to working with the firm’s energy and resources teams.

He will also strengthen Hogan Lovells’ connections with China by drawing on his experiences as a significant driver of Clayton Utz’s China practice and strategy for more than three years.

Mr Johnson is admitted in England and Australia, bringing to the firm an enviable track record and mix of local and international expertise, which fit perfectly with the local and global strategy of Hogan Lovells in Australia.

“Matt is a talented and respected partner who will play an important role in the further growth and development of our Australia operations,” said Tim Lester, joint manager partner, Australia and head of the corporate practice in Australia.

“He brings excellent local, regional and international experience to our corporate transactional practice in Australia.”

Since Hogan Lovells launched in Australia last year, under the joint leadership of former Allens partners Tim and Nicky Lester, it has appointed four other partners.

The appointment of Mr Johnson brings Hogan Lovells’ presence in Australia to seven partners and 25 fee earners.
