John Colvin, the chief executive officer at Blake Dawson before the current managing partner John Carrington, has taken a position as executive chairman at Johnson Executive Search.

In his new role, Colvin will lead the firm’s CEO and board practice and professional services practice and will provide coaching and mentoring to the company’s employees.

On why he took up the new post, Colvin himself said: “Johnson Executive Search is well placed to become a genuine Australian challenger firm, providing the quality of expertise, services and presence in the marketplace to match any of the global firms.”

He said there are fewer constraints “emanating from global off-limits agreements which permits the firm to source talent pro-actively for our clients”.

Colvin said diversity at the board level remained an ongoing discussion.

“More debate must occur on what genuine diversity at the board level means. In addition to gender, the term diversity should also apply to geographic, cultural and professional diversity.

“A lot more thought goes into board composition than ever before, so this is a positive time for renewed debate,” he said.
