Sparke Helmore Lawyers has welcomed back a former lawyer who left to work in-house.

The firm has taken back former partner Janice Nand as a consultant in the workplace group in the Sydney office.

Nand has recently spent two years as country counsel at Boeing, where she focused on employment and compliance issues.

Nand specialises in employment law and has 20 years’ experience in private practice, government and corporate environments.

“I’m looking forward to being in private practice again and in a familiar environment where I’ll be supporting the firm’s government and corporate clients on their employment law matters,” she said.

Her old and new firm said Nand’s experience in a large global corporate equips her with a strong understanding of the service and advisory expectations in-house counsel legal teams have of law firms.

Jesse Webb, the firm’s national managing partner, said: “We were sorry to see Janice go, but we’re thrilled that she chose us when she decided to move back into private practice. Her in-house experience is a great addition to our team and means that she understands the needs of companies looking for external advice.”

Nand has also held legal and management positions in Federal Government agencies, including the Communications portfolio, Immigration and the Australian Government Solicitor’s Office. She held a diplomatic post in London with the Department of Immigration.

Sparke Helmore is not the only firm to take back a lawyer who left. DibbsBarker last week hired Rosan Santangelo as special counsel in its insurance group, after she left the firm in February last year to join Lee and Lyons Lawyers.
