Ian Brown, Maurice Blackburn principal and manager of the Browns Plains office in Brisbane has been elected vice president of the Queensland Law Society.

In elections late in 2011, there were 19 people vying for a position on the Council, and the Society had one of its best voter turnouts, with 2,346 members participating.

Brown, an existing QLS executive member, said he was looking forward to having a broader role in representing the interests of QLD lawyers as they plan for proposed national changes in legal regulation.

“Having worked in regional areas and now in Brisbane’s south, I’m particularly aware of the needs of lawyers in suburban and regional firms," said Brown.

Gino Andrieri, principal in the firm’s Rockhampton and Mackay offices has been appointed president of the Central Queensland Law Association.

Andrieri was active in supporting local residents after the Central Queensland floods in early 2011.

In Victoria, three Maurice Blackburn lawyers have had their positions confirmed on the litigation lawyer’s executive of the Law Institute of Victoria; John Voyage, head of the firm’s national road injuries practice; Kathryn Booth head of national medical negligence practice and Geraldine Collins, principal road injuries lawyer in the Sunshine office.

“Securing these leadership positions which represent the interests of the legal profession shows that our lawyers are held in high regard by their colleagues,” said Maurice Blackburn chief executive Greg Tucker.

Jillian Barrett and Trent Johnson, both associates in Brisbane, also passed the QLS specialist accreditation exam bringing the total number of the firm’s accredited specialist lawyers in personal injuries, dispute resolution and industrial relations to 33 nationally.
