Retired silk joins Corrs Chambers Westgarth

A renowned commercial silk has retired from the bar to join the national law firm’s dispute resolution practice.

Charles Scerri QC has been welcomed by Corrs Chambers Westgarth. He will officially commence his new role from 1 July.

Mr Scerri has been a commercial silk since 1997 with his expertise including regulatory investigations and disputes, competition, class actions and a wide variety of matters in the energy and natural resources sector.

As per a statement provided by Corrs, Mr Scerri has appeared principally in the Federal Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of Victoria. In addition, he has also appeared regularly interstate and in Papua New Guinea, and is “widely regarded as a leading advocate”.

“I have known Charles for many years and he is an outstanding addition to the firm,” said Corrs chief executive Gavin MacLaren.

His wealth of experience, fine judgment and deep insight will be incredibly valuable to our clients on major dispute resolution matters. He will also assist clients, through our board advisory practice, in the development of effective approaches to risk mitigation. I am delighted to welcome Charles to the Corrs partnership.”

Corrs’ head of commercial litigation Mark Wilks echoed a similar sentiment, noting Mr Scerri will play a major role in a number of [the firms] significant disputes and regulatory investigation matters”.

Commenting on his new role, Mr Scerri said: “I have been friends, and worked many times with Corrs’ partner Craig Phillips and Gavin for decades in Australia, PNG and the US I am looking forward very much to working with them as a partner.
