McCabes — which has five offices across four states — has moved to bolster its insurance practice group with the appointment of four new principals.

David Cooper, who most recently served at HWL Ebsworth and Sparke Helmore, and Michael Nguyen, who was previously at Meridian Lawyers and Colin Biggers & Paisley, have both been hired as principals.

Moreover, the firm has elevated both Karl Maakasa and Nicole Oglesby to principal, both of whom were serving as special counsel.

The news follows McCabes’ addition of a corporate principal last month, its promotion of nine professionals late last year, its taking of a property team from Hunt & Hunt in July, and its elevation of 18 professionals in mid-2022.

McCabes managing principal Andrew Lacey said that these recent appointments would play a “key role in developing the insurance division”.

“To position ourselves as leaders in the insurance law field, we require meticulous professionals who have the right expertise to lead, and we are very confident that David, Karl, Nicole and Michael will exceed expectations,” he proclaimed.

McCabes principal Leighton Hawkes added that the four new principals are set to “vitalise” the firm’s work in this space.

“We are delighted to expand our team by welcoming two new principals to McCabes and providing both Nicole Oglesby and Karl Maakasa well-deserved promotions to leaders in our firm,” he said.

“One of our objectives for 2023 was to provide a wider berth of expertise to our clients and strengthen the depth of our offering with seasoned practitioners.

“David, Karl, Michael and Nicole have all the tools to achieve this for us.”
