Con Kakakios and Nathan Buck (both pictured) are the newest partners at Kennedys, both of whom are based in the BigLaw firm’s Sydney office.

The promotion of the pair to the partnership, the firm said in a statement, continues its investment in growing its ranks of senior Australian specialists across key insurance lines, including general liability, financial lines, and complex disputes.

The promotions will take effect on 1 May 2024.

The news follows Kennedys poaching of Clyde & Co’s Australian head, Lucinda Lyons, as a new insurance partner back in November, who subsequently brought across eight lawyers with her from that global practice, as reported in December.

Earlier this year, the firm’s Australian managing partner, Jonathan Wyatt, spoke with Lawyers Weekly about Kennedys’ push to be a “growing force” in Australia’s insurance market.

Reflecting on the promotions, Wyatt commented: “Con and Nathan are both outstanding additions to our Australian partnership.

“Their promotions are significant career milestones and reflect many years of hard work and an ongoing commitment to provide our clients with exceptional service in their dedicated areas, not to mention showing the leadership qualities we value as a firm.”

Kennedys Asia-Pacific managing partner Matt Andrews added: “I am pleased to congratulate both Con and Nathan, along with our new Hong Kong partner Bertha Ng, on their well-deserved promotions.

“They are part of our strategic focus to build one of the leading legal and risk advisory teams in the APAC region supporting local and international clients in core locations and areas, including insurance, defamation and corporate and commercial.”
