Lucinda Lyons is set to join Kennedys, bringing the firm’s partner count in Australia to 22 as it looks to strengthen its position in the Asia-Pacific region.

In a statement, the global firm outlined that, for over two decades, Ms Lyons has worked closely with major Australian and London insurers and reinsurers, as well as brokers, insureds, and corporations, and her practice primarily focuses on specialities such as personal injury, third-party property and product liability work, as well as advising on historical abuse matters on behalf of organisations and insurance companies.

She will commence in her new role on 18 December and be based in Kennedys’ Sydney office.

Speaking about her new role, Ms Lyons – who was a finalist in the insurance category at the 2022 Partner of the Year Awards – said: “Kennedys is a leading, global insurance firm, and I receive regular feedback from clients about its market-leading reputation.

“I am looking forward to working closely with my colleagues at Kennedys to continue to leverage the firm’s network and expertise to bring quality solutions and services to our clients.”

Ms Lyons comes across from fellow global firm Clyde & Co, where she currently serves as its Australian managing partner – a role she was appointed to in October of last year. She has also, Kennedys outlined, been a partner at Connery & Partners and was the owner and founder of Lee & Lyons.

The news follows Kennedys’ appointment of Emily Unger as partner in May and its expansion into Brisbane in July of last year.

In conversation with Lawyers Weekly following that expansion, the firm’s then-Australian managing partner, Matt Andrews, said that Queensland is an “important gateway” for Kennedys’ regional growth and that it is “optimistic” about its outlook in Australia.

Kennedys Australian managing partner Jonathan Wyatt said: “I am delighted to welcome Lucinda to Kennedys. Lucinda’s appointment will enable us to continue to build on the work we are already doing with local and international clients.”

Mr Andrews – now serving as the firm’s APAC regional managing partner – added: “Lucinda is an experienced and highly regarded insurance specialist in the market. I am delighted that she has joined the firm, as we continue our regional expansion in APAC.”

In mid-2021, the firm expanded into Perth by way of appointing Mr Wyatt from Clyde & Co, who at the time brought a team of nine professionals with him.
