Prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, Allens was already offering graduates a chance to engage with the firm digitally, but has since reassured students that they are still “excited to get to know them” by introducing more options to connect amid pandemic concerns.

Through virtual career fairs, recording podcast episodes and hosting sessions on platform Meet & Engage, Allens said it is committed to “growing future lawyers and leaders”.

Head of resourcing at Allens, Shannon Lyndon-Lugg, said: “Connecting with future talent is even more important now given the current climate and we’re expanding our use of the technology to virtually connect with students.”

Allens was the first law firm to sign on to Meet & Engage, a platform that allows students to actively engage with workplaces and is particularly useful prior to clerkships. Over the last four weeks, Allens has hosted 18 sessions and connected with over 700 students.

The Q&As are conducted live and facilitated by representatives from Allens’ people and development team, as well as lawyers and partners from across the firm. The format has allowed students the opportunity to ask questions of industry leaders.

“Having the chance to ask questions in real-time about topics such as culture and flexible working, wellbeing, opportunities for pro bono work and the clerkship application process provides enormous benefit to law students,” Ms Lyndon-Lugg said.

“It’s an avenue for asking questions they might not want to ask face-to-face.”
