Meridian Lawyers is expanding its insurance offering, having hired over a dozen practitioners from McCabes, including principal Vid Dragomirovic, special counsel Laura D’Alessandri, Isabel Cusumano and Phillip Thomas, senior associates Sarah Zevari, Homira Haideri, Nicholas Robertson and Mia Ioannou, associates Melissa Sayers, Max Stanistreet and Rihab Abdul-Rahman and lawyers Roni Aloe and Lindsay Sudiro.

The firm has also appointed, from McCabes, a graduate lawyer, three paralegals and one legal secretary.

All new starters will be based in Meridian’s Sydney and Melbourne offices.

The news follows Meridian’s hiring of a new insurance principal in late November, a medical negligence principal in August, and its promotion of five to more senior roles and appointment of a new chief commercial officer, both in June 2022, here and here.

The news also follows McCabes’ own run of high-profile hires of late, including having taken a team from HWL Ebsworth in late March and having hired four new principals in recent months, as first reported by Lawyers Weekly.

Meridian, which was founded in 2004, has over 150 staff, including 24 principals across its five offices in Sydney, Newcastle, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.

Speaking about the firm’s expanded insurance offering, Meridian managing director Paul Baker said that he is “thrilled” to be welcoming the new team members to the firm.

“Their exceptional expertise and depth of experience complements our existing team and expands the national insurance offer we are able to provide to our client base,” he said.

Mr Dragomirovic added: “I am excited to be a part of Meridian’s dedicated national insurance team and for the opportunity to grow my practice.

“Meridian’s team members have an unparalleled depth of expertise in insurance and health law, and I look forward to working alongside the team to enhance the services I can provide to my clients.”
