Government Lawyer of the Year

This award recognises the government lawyer who has most efficiently upheld legal responsibilities within a government organisation while enhancing opportunities for further growth and legislation.

It includes in-house lawyers who work in all types of government organisations, including state and federal government departments, and accredited agencies listed on the Australian government website.

It is open to in-house lawyers who have been employed by a government agency or department that has been active for at least two full financial years.

To be eligible for this award, the government lawyer needs to demonstrate activities undertaken in the 12 months from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2018 that have been an asset to the government organisation and wider Australian community.

Assessment Criteria:

Nominees will be judged on their responses to the following:

  • Explain your involvement with government and how your role has contributed to broader society.
  • How did you handle challenges that emerged in acting on behalf of government? Did you demonstrate creativity and lateral thinking to ensure a favourable outcome?
  • Provide examples of the initiatives and work you have undertaken on behalf of the government.
  • What is your key point of difference compared with other government lawyers?
