Jones Day has hired a former Freehills partner in its Sydney office.

INTERNATIONAL law firm Jones Day has announced that Philip Hoser has joined the firm as a partner in the Sydney Office.

He comes to Jones Day from law firm Freehills, where he was a commercial litigation partner and headed up their restructuring and insolvency practice.

Before Freehills, Hoser practiced as a barrister in London.

Chris Ahern, partner-in-charge of Jones Day's Sydney Office, added: "We have seen significant levels of litigation and restructuring activity, particularly with our recently publicised involvement as restructuring counsel for Chrysler and special counsel to Lehman Brothers, over the last few months.

"We expect these areas to continue to strengthen given the current markets. [Hoser's] arrival will help us ensure our ability to support our clients in these areas."

Hoser's appointment will further strengthen the restructuring and litigation practices both in Sydney and internationally, the firm said today.

Hoser has worked on several of the largest restructurings in Australia in the last few years.

The firm said his experience in these two areas will ensure that the firm's Sydney office reflects Jones Day's global strengths in trial practice and in restructuring work.

"Philip Hoser's experience makes him an ideal fit with our restructuring practice and the firm," said Paul Leake, head of Jones Day's business restructuring and reorganisation practice.

"His arrival builds on our continuing goal of providing world-class restructuring services to our clients all around the world."
