Following the recent appointment of Tony Phelps as Piper Alderman’s managing partner, outgoing managing partner Gordon Grieve has taken on the role of the firm’s chairman of partners.

Grieve takes over from Tony Abbott who is retiring from the position after 11 years.

During Abbott’s term as chairman, the firm opened offices in Melbourne and Brisbane and developed into a national partnership.

Grieve has accepted the role of chairman for the next two years. He brings the experience of four years as managing partner.

Phelps will continue his practice at Piper Alderman and his role as a member of the Consultative Group to the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) National Legal Profession Reform project.

In another recent appointment, Phelps announced that Brisbane partner Greg Whyte will be taking over the role of head of the dispute resolution division.

Whyte practices all forms of dispute resolution with a focus on commercial and corporate disputes and general and marine insurance.
