DLA Piper has announced the appointment of a former Norton Rose Australia lawyer to its ranks.

Troy Doyle has joined as a partner in the Singapore office to lead the firm's restructuring and distressed investment team in Asia.

With more than 13 years' experience in the Asia Pacific region, Doyle joins DLA Piper from Norton Rose Australia and was previously the restructuring practice leader at Clifford Chance for South East Asia in Singapore.

The firm's new recruit specialises in financial and corporate restructuring and insolvency advice, distressed mergers and acquisitions, distressed debt trading and other special opportunity transactions. He also has experience in advising investment banks, private equity firms, hedge funds, insolvency practitioners and corporations on distressed situations throughout Australia, Singapore, Thailand, India, Indonesia, Philippines and China, DLA Piper said today.

The man himself said he is attracted by the global reach and fully integrated services that his new firm offers.

" I am delighted to join the firm and look forward to continuing to provide support for Asian and Australian clients with their local and regional matters while identifying new opportunities to broaden my practice in a truly international firm."

As the lead partner for Asia, Doyle will work with his counterparts in the US, UK, Europe and Australia, he said.

Matthew Glynn, country managing partner of DLA Piper Singapore said Doyle's experience will add significant strength to the range of service the firm offers in Singapore and Asia Pacific.

"Singapore is an important gateway for companies across South East Asia and East Asia and, in line with this, our office continues to play an increasingly important role as a regional centre," Glynn said.

“Distressed investment opportunities are likely to be growing in scale and number given the ongoing volatility in financial markets and economic uncertainty combined with increased cross-border business in the region.

"Having Troy on board to drive the team regionally allows us to ramp up our capabilities to counsel clients in this key area," said Lance Miller, Asia regional managing partner of DLA Piper.

"[He] will be an important leader in developing an international restructuring practice for the firm and will play a significant role aligning our Asia Pacific objectives with DLA Piper globally."
