In a week dominated by smaller firms hiring from the top six, King & Wood Mallesons turned the tables by hiring from Gilbert + Tobin.

The firm hired senior associate and intellectual property expert Sophia Finter to the firm’s Brisbane office.

At Gilbert + Tobin, Finter worked as a senior lawyer in the firm’s intellectual property team, acting on a number of high profile copyright cases including the Cooper, Kazaa and iiNet cases.

Finter worked for music and entertainment organisations Universal Music, Phonographic Performance Company of Australia Limited, and for Warner/Chappell Music and Epic/Sony Records (Japan) prior to joining Gilbert +Tobin.

Finter joins a 350-strong intellectual property team at her new firm.

King & Wood Mallesons IP partner John Swinson, who is based in the firm’s Brisbane office, said: “We are thrilled with Sophia’s decision to join the firm. Sophia brings with her a wealth of experience and industry knowledge which will provide further depth to our IP litigation practice and strengthen our offering to clients.”
