Firm Price for Future Fund

An Allens partner will head the legal team at the Australian Government Future Fund, a position that has been vacant since August when the Fund’s inaugural general counsel quit.

Corporate and commercial partner Cameron Price (pictured) will start the new position at the end of March after 25 years at Allens. He replaces Robyn Fry, who took on the role of inaugural general counsel and founding member of the Fund’s legal team in 2007.

Fry left the Fund when it announced a restructure of its legal team last year. The restructure involved redefining the general counsel role and creating a new deputy general counsel position, which was filled by the Fund’s senior legal counsel Chris Wilson.

The new general counsel role focuses on providing strategic advice to the board and senior management team, as well as overseeing the provision of the secretariat service to the board.

Price joined Allens in 1989 and has since advised on numerous M&A transactions in Australia and Asia, and on a range of equity financing transactions for large corporate clients and underwriters.

He attended the Academy of American and International Law in Dallas, US in 1993, and from 1994 to 1996 was based at Allens’ Hong Kong office.

The Fund was established in 2006 to assist future Australian governments to meet the cost of public sector superannuation liabilities by delivering investment returns on contributions to the Fund. The broadly diversified global portfolio is valued at $96.6 billion.
