An Alabama-based partner is the only female to be appointed to the board of directors of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers (IATL) this year.
LaBella Alvis (pictured) is a partner at boutique firm Christian & Small located in Birmingham, Alabama. The professional liability and medical malpractice lawyer will serve a three-year term on the IATL board.

The IATL is a group of elite trial lawyers representing both sides of the Bar: prosecutors and defence lawyers in criminal cases, and plaintiffs and defence counsel in civil litigation.
The purpose of the IATL is to promote reforms in the law, facilitate the administration of justice, promote the rule of law internationally and evaluate the standards of integrity, honour and courtesy in the legal profession.
Fellowship is by invitation only, and trial lawyers are invited to become Fellows only after “an extremely careful vetting process”.
More than 30 countries are represented in the Academy’s membership.
