Russell Kennedy principal Michael Gorton has been re-elected as president of the International Alliance of Law Firms (IALF).

Gorton was re-elected to lead the network of 60 firms in 43 countries across the Americas, Europe, Asia and Africa at the Alliance’s annual general meeting in Seattle in May.

Gorton said the IALF allows member firms to compete with international firms and provide carefully vetted services across jurisdictions.

“With the continued internationalisation of Australian law firms, networks like the Alliance are critically important to mid-tier firms,” he added.

Gorton was first elected last year, and was the first Australian to be elected to the position in the IALF’s 23-year history.

Russell Kennedy has been involved with the Alliance for around seven years and has used its referral network.

More than 100 lawyers from around the world gathered at the AGM to discuss various professional and industry issues, practice management, business development, client issues, and marketing.
