Former MP joins Nexus

Former MP joins Nexus

Former member of the NSW parliament John Turner has joined Nexus Law Group as a legal consultant.

Turner (pictured) served as an MP for over two decades, representing the seat of Myall Lakes for the National Party.

He was a chair of a number of parliamentary committees and held 11 shadow ministerial portfolios during his time with the NSW Legislative Assembly.

Prior to working in parliament, Turner was a partner in a legal practice and acted as an alderman and deputy mayor on Cessnock City Council.

In his retirement he was appointed chairman of the NSW Local Government Acts Taskforce.

Turner is also the independent chair of a number of coal community consultative committees and the Namoi Councils Minerals and Energy Working Group.

“It is not very often that someone comes along with John’s level of knowledge and understanding of the public and private sectors afforded by the combination of his parliamentary and legal careers… We are delighted by John’s decision to join our team,” said managing partner of Nexus Marcus McCarthy.

Nexus Law Group operates under a full service dispersed legal practice model, which returns practitioners 70 per cent of their fees.

“Over the course of my career, I have seen that businesses, to stay relevant, must change and that includes the practise of law,” said Turner.

Last month Nexus Law Group poached a commercial and construction specialist Nawzer Billimoria from Lend Lease to join its team as a consultant partner.

This was the second recruit for Nexus in August, following the appointment of the resources and infrastructure specialist Brendan Tobin in Newcastle.
