Allens loses another IR partner

PwC has made its second lateral partner appointment this month and Allens has lost another senior industrial relations lawyer.

Sydney-based Allens partner Tim Frost will be leaving the firm to join PwC.

Frost’s defection comes hot on the heels on the departure of the firm’s employment relations and workplace head Jamie Wells ditching Allens for global rivals King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) earlier this month.

Frost, like Wells, has been a partner at Allens since 2001.

His clients include Westpac, Brambles, Newcrest Mining and Shell.

Frost did not return phone or email messages when approached by Lawyers Weekly.

Lawyers Weekly also approached PwC partner Tony O’Malley, who heads the firm’s Asia Pacific legal arm. O’Malley and senior figures in the PwC legal team were, however, unavailable for comment due to travel commitments.

PwC is looking to expand its Australian legal services team via lateral partner appointments.

In joining PwC in August, O’Malley, formerly King & Wood Mallesons’ Australian head, told Lawyers Weekly that PwC was seeking to double its Australian partner headcount to 20-25 partners and establish a $100 million-plus practice within three to five years.

“PwC is now a very different animal to what it was in the early ‘90s,” said O’Malley back in August. “It has grown substantially, it has become much more sophisticated and its capacity to invest is stronger.”

Earlier this month, PwC poached KWM senior associate Natalie Kurdian.

Kurdian joined PwC as a partner.
