A former principal at Rockwell Olivier has become the new head of KellyHazellQuill’s (KHQ’s) dispute resolution and litigation practice group, while two principals have left the boutique to join a large law firm.

Julie Armstrong started February 2, the same day that the news broke of two founding principals, Michael Hazell and Justin Quill, quitting to join M+K Lawyers.

Armstrong has experience in commercial disputes, insolvency and restructuring and has been involved in a number of high-profile litigation and insolvency matters. She was previously a partner at both Phillips Fox (now DLA Piper) and Herbert Geer (now Thomson Geer).

She said she was excited about her new role: “Joining KHQ gives me the opportunity to work with like-minded lawyers, delivering strategic and commercially focused legal services to clients in a flexible environment not found in many practices in Melbourne these days.”

The directors of the firm said they were pleased to attract a lawyer of such “calibre and reputation”.

Boutique commercial law firm KHQ was established in 2006 and has grown considerably over that time, announcing that it had doubled its revenue over two years in April last year.
