Long-serving Gilbert + Tobin partner Rani John (pictured) is set to join DLA Piper’s litigation and regulatory practice in Sydney.

Ms John said she was excited about joining the firm and looked forward to building the Australian commercial litigation practice.

"[Ms John’s] appointment reflects our ambition to grow our complex commercial litigation work in the region, and I am delighted to welcome her to the firm," said DLA Piper managing partner, Australia, John Weber.

Ms John specialises in complex commercial litigation and regulatory investigations and has previously acted for major corporate clients, financial institutions, statutory corporations, government agencies and professional advisers.

She has been recognised in numerous independent directories, and Chambers Asia Pacific 2014 described Ms John as a "fierce and determined litigator, noted for her confidence-inspiring tactical instincts and good judgement”.

Ms John was previously general counsel and company secretary at the Australian Payments Clearing Association Limited and has also worked at Freehills (now Herbert Smith Freehills) and with Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLP in New York.
