A Melbourne-based firm has announced the appointment of a new director from Herbert Smith Freehills.

Clarendon Lawyers appointed private equity and venture capital specialist Alex Bean (pictured) as a director of the firm.

Mr Bean joins Clarendons with a background in corporate law, with expertise on private equity and venture capital.

He joins from HSF where he was a senior associate for almost 10 years. Prior to HSF, Mr Bean trained and worked as a lawyer in London from 2003-2007.

Throughout his career, Mr Bean has advised clients on private mergers and acquisitions, capital raising and investments, management incentive arrangements, joint ventures, strategic contracts, corporate restructuring and general commercial law.

“Alex is a perfect addition to our dynamic, driven partnership and he is joining us at a really exciting time,” Clarendons’ founder and managing director, Tony Symons said.

“We are better positioned now more than ever to become the leading specialist legal corporate advisory firm in the market.”

Mr Bean said he is thrilled to be joining Clarendon Lawyers and looks forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead.

“They are an exceptional team and provide a unique client offering, advising companies and investors at all stages of a company’s life cycle, from start-up to exit and beyond. The firm develops deep and longstanding connections with its clients and that really resonates with me,” he said.

“I look forward to adding my experience, passion and commitment to the firm’s skillset.

“With Australia’s focus on innovation, law firms must not miss the opportunity to contribute. It is critical they can adapt to clients’ needs, be forward-thinking and agile, and consistently provide the highest level of service.”

This latest appointment comes after Clarendons announced the appointment of ECM expert Nick Golding to the partnership last month.
