THE SYDNEY property group of Maddocks has been bolstered with the recruitment of Maurice Doria as special counsel.

With approximately 20 years’ experience, Doria adds to firm’s expertise in the government and property sectors. He comes to the Melbourne and Sydney-based commercial law firm after six years with PwC Legal where he acted for both government and private sector clients.

“The overlay of commercial objectives with the regulated environment within which local government operates is what makes this type of legal work so interesting,” Doria said.

“Lawyers operating in this area need to skilfully balance the competing aspects — commercial interests, regulatory processes and political will — which are often difficult to align.

“The challenge is to balance these aspects and find solutions to any conflicts that arise in commercial property transactions to achieve good outcomes for all parties involved,” he said.
