THE CONSTRUCTION and Infrastructure practice of Blake Dawson Waldron received a welcome boost with the appointment of new partner Graham Read, to begin in early 2007.

Read formerly worked for Tower Australia Limited where he was head of legal and compliance. This followed a stint as corporate counsel with NSW Roads and Traffic Authority, where he gained a reputation for outstanding work, particularly in connection with major road and related infrastructure projects. His legal career began at Freehills in 1991.

Construction and infrastructure practice team leader Chris Mitchell believes Read “is highly regarded both as a lawyer and also for his expertise in leading complex contractual negotiations on major infrastructure projects”.

“He has a breadth of experience managing large legal teams and brings a strong understanding of working with government at a very senior level. His ability to manage complex legal issues with a strategic focus is also well recognised,” Mitchell said.

Read was attracted to Blakes’ “impressive depth of experience and resources to support it”.

“I am delighted to join the firm and look forward to working as a member of the construction team to further develop and build the practice,” he said.

During his eight years at RTA, Read played a key role in the delivery of several major publicly and privately funded projects, including the Pacific Highway Upgrade, the Western Sydney Orbital, Lane Cove Tunnel and Cross City Tunnel.
