Appointed as GST practice leader, Stacey is renowned for his analysis of GST matters, and his views have been published in Europe and Australia. He also has strong working relationships with key industry bodies, including the Australian Tax Office and Treasury.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Corrs and having the opportunity to assist its clients with their GST issues,” he said.

Partner and chief executive officer of the firm, John Denton, welcomed the appointment of Stacey, saying he “brings a tremendous amount of industry knowledge and expertise to the revenue group and will significantly strengthen the firm’s capabilities”.

Aside from GST, Stacey also has experience in Australian income tax and English corporation tax. He said he is looking forward to the challenge of working in Corrs’ expanding revenue group, as well as playing a leading role in developing the firm’s GST practice nationally.

Having consulted with Coopers & Lybrand in London for over seven years before returning to Australia in the late 1990s and working with KPMG, Stacey more recently worked as a tax commentator with Thomson ATP, where he was responsible for the development of Australian GST Journal.

Stacey will work with other recent appointees to the Sydney revenue group, with Dixon Hearder promoted to partner, the lateral recruitment of Jonathon Leek as partner, and Paul Argent and Cullen Smythe as senior associates.
