William Mulholland has recently joined McMahons National Lawyer s as a special counsel, bringing with him his arts/entertainment/media practice. Before joining McMahons he was a sole practitioner running William Mulholland & Co. He has acted for several high-profile clients in the arts, entertainment and media industry including Kylie Minogue and Tina Arena. He has also acted for both private and publicly-listed companies in a range of commercial and corporate matters including corporate structuring, restricted rights issues, litigation/dispute resolution and the development and commercialisation of intellectual property strategies.

Robert Wilcher has been appointed as a partner with Herbert Geer & Rundle and will augment HGR’s property services group in Sydney. The firm said Wilcher, formerly a partner with Baker & McKenzie, brings more than 17 years experience across a wide range of environmental and planning law areas to HGR, and has particular expertise in environmental and urban development processes and sustainable development issues (such as green leases, ratings and land contamination) in commercial and residential development.

Ebsworth & Ebsworth Lawyers has promoted three lawyers to senior associate. In Melbourne, Abigail Thorbeckes areas of expertise include insurance and dispute resolution. She has extensive experience acting for insurers and insureds in professional indemnity insurance, life and disability claims, general and public liability claims and medical negligence. She recently returned to Australia from England where she was involved with complex, high value insurance disputes for the London market, European, Middle Eastern and Asian insurance clients. John Caravousanos works with the property and construction team in Brisbane. With more than 10 years experience as a lawyer in private and government practice, he has developed an extensive knowledge of property, commercial, banking, taxation (particularly indirect taxation such as stamp duty and GST), general litigation and estates law. Also in Brisbane, Greg Carters areas of expertise are dispute resolution and litigation covering commercial, transport and native title matters.

Maddocks has appointed five senior associates. Angelina Lagana joined the tax disputes team in Melbourne two years ago from PricewaterhouseCoopers Legal and mainly advises Maddocks’ larger corporate clients in managing their tax audits and preparing evidence for litigation. Karin Ragel joined the firm’s construction group in Sydney last year from Allens Arthur Robinson. At Maddocks, Karin advises the Lane Cove Tunnel Company and other clients on consultancy agreements and construction contracts. Jade Rowarth and Julian Smith undertook their articles at Maddocks before being admitted to practice in 2002. Rowarth works on insolvency-related matters and Smith assists clients in the sale and acquisition of businesses and advises on financial services and superannuation. Genevieve Wallace first joined Maddocks as an articled clerk in 2001 and following her admission, worked in the public law (governance) group in Melbourne. She relocated to Sydney in 2003 and her practice now involves advising NSW councils on a wide range of governance and administrative law issues.

EKM Legal has recently appointed Janie Thomas as a solicitor in their intellectual property group. She was previously employed at McDonald & Associates where she specialised in intellectual property and commercial law, with an emphasis on trade mark registration and enforcement. Janie has also worked at several large firms in Melbourne and London. Amanda Wilson also joined EKM Legal in January 2006 as a solicitor from New Zealand and will work in the firm’s advertising and trade practices group.
