Grime is expected to strengthen the firm’s complex merger control and high-stakes competition and consumer matters.

He brings experience in merger control, behavioural antitrust and cartel investigations, market studies, regulated infrastructure and third-party access regimes, and Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) enforcement proceedings, having worked in the latter’s enforcement and mergers divisions.

Thomson Geer also highlighted his advisory capabilities across multiple industries, including energy and resources, transport, technology, healthcare, and consumer goods, having secured approvals under the ACCC’s new merger regime on behalf of multinational corporations L’Oreal and Adobe.

Chief executive partner Adrian Tembel highlighted Grime’s ability to handle growing demand from clients for sophisticated advice in a dynamic sector.

He said: “Mark has a strong track record advising on complex, high-value and strategically significant matters. His appointment strengthens our ability to support clients navigating increasingly complex competition and regulatory landscapes, particularly in M&A and cross-border transactions.”

Grime expressed his excitement about joining the firm at a time of continued growth in antitrust competition and consumer offering capabilities.

“Thomson Geer offers a formidable national platform and an impressive client base in key sectors of the economy facing increasing antitrust scrutiny. It’s a pivotal time for competition law in Australia, and I look forward to working with the firm’s leading M&A and disputes teams and sector experts to help clients navigate a landscape where penalties for anticompetitive conduct have reached record highs,” he said.

“Seamlessly securing regulatory approvals for complex and strategically important transactions has never been more important with the ACCC’s mandatory merger control regime now fully operational.”
