Six firms act on golden capital raising

Allens and King & Wood Mallesons were two of six law firms that advised on the equity capital raising of Canada-based OceanaGold.

Deal: OceanaGold’s equity capital raising

Value: C$93.3 million

Key players: Allens’ legal team was led by partner Julian Donnan (pictured), senior associate Robert Speed and lawyer Amy Spira. The King & Wood Mallesons team was led by M&A partners David Friedlander and David Eliakim. They were supported by senior associate Daniel Natale and solicitor Apoorva Suryaprakash. Stikeman Elliott acted as Canadian counsel and Dorsey & Whitney acted as US counsel for the joint lead underwriters.  Fasken Martineau acted as Canadian counsel, and Sullivan Cromwell also acted as US counsel for OceanaGold.

Deal significance: Canada-based OceanaGold, which is listed on the TSX, ASX and NZX, has three operating gold mines and a portfolio of assets located in New Zealand and the Philippines. Proceeds from its capital raising will be used to pay outstanding debt and provide balance sheet and operating flexibility.
