Firms Whispir in Telstra’s ear

HWL Ebsworth and King & Wood Mallesons have acted on an investment by Telstra into Australian cloud-based software company Whispir Limited.

Deal: Investment by Telstra-owned Applications and Ventures Group (AVG) into Australian cloud-based software company Whispir Limited (Whispir).

Area: Corporate finance

Value: $4 million

Key players: Tax partner Leon Gorr (pictured) and M&A partner Jeremy McCarthy, together with senior associate Paul Lewis, led the transaction for HWL. KWM partner Michael Barker and senior associate Ryan Thorne and solicitor Peggy Ching also acted.

Deal significance: Whispir is a Melbourne-based company with international reach that provides organisations with mobile, email, voice and digital technology for targeted communications between staff, customers and the community. Whispir CEO Jeromy Wells said: "With Whispir's product depth and Telstra's reach we are focused on continuing to grow our business both domestically and internationally.  We have seen significant growth in key vertical markets like banking and finance, utilities, transportation and emergency services."
