Corrs’ John Denton AO (pictured) has been tapped to co-chair the Financing Growth and Infrastructure task force for the B20. He is the only Australian in the B20 leadership team, charged with advocacy of task force recommendations with governments, the global business community, and the public at large.

This is the second year that the Australian lawyer has been approached for the role, with an invitation from 2017 chair Germany and now Argentina to his name.

Current B20 chair Daniel Funes de Rioja said that Mr Denton’s approach and perspective were of “the greatest vale” to the task force.

He also noted Mr Denton’s affiliation with the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the largest business organisation in the world, as an important strategic benefit to B20.

“The ICC has always been a strategic partner for the B20. This year it will continue being so, reinforced by the opportunity of having John Denton as one of the members actively involved occupying a co-chair role,” Mr Funes de Rioja said.

Mr Denton is the first vice-chair of International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and secretary general-elect of this international body.

The B20 is the private sector’s voice of the G20, and as like the G20, operates with a rotating presidency responsible for its agenda and organisation.

“It is an honour to have been asked to be part of this process. The B20 helps set the agenda for globally significant business issues and is a vital voice for the international business community,” Mr Denton said of his B20 role.

He added that he would deploy the same approach co-chairing the task force that he used at Corrs to wade through complex issues and adapt to evolving realities.

“Clients rely heavily on our firm to help guide them through complex issues and the continually changing business and political environments. I intend to utilise this same approach for the business community in my role as co-chair of this task force,” Mr Denton said.

A statement from Corrs said that in his capacity as co-chair, Mr Denton would provide recommendations around global business issues, including frameworks for financial systems.

Mr Denton also aims to encourage economic growth, improve tax cooperation and foster business development, the firm said.
