John Mollard brings to the firm’s partnership a focus on mergers and acquisitions and foreign direct investment for projects in the energy and resources sector.

His experience has seen him work across major markets including London, Beijing and Singapore.

Fluent in Mandarin, he has advised on Chinese outbound investment for more than 20 years while also being a leading practitioner in mining law with special expertise in conventional and unconventional upstream oil and gas, according to a Dentons statement.

Speaking about his decision to join the firm, Mr Mollard said “critical factors” included Dentons’ significant presence in China and the firm’s growth in Asia, as seen by recent combinations in Indonesia and Malaysia.

“Dentons’ global footprint and innovative offerings as part of NextLaw were also compelling, and I’m excited to be joining the team in Melbourne,” he said.

CEO of Dentons’ Australia Ian Dardis said the firm was “delighted” to add another legal heavyweight to its growing corporate practice.

“John is a significant hire for the Australia region,” he noted.

“A well-regarded lawyer, John brings significant experience in mergers and acquisitions and foreign direct investment that will benefit local and global clients.”

“John’s appointment to the partnership is reflective of Dentons’ strategy to grow the Australia region and follows a number of significant hires across corporate, life sciences, and intellectual property and technology,” Mr Dardis explained.
