Area: Health, Infrastructure

Key players: Banking and infrastructure partner Alexander Danne was supported by special counsel James Pomeroy, senior counsel Penny Swain, senior lawyer Daniel Yim, lawyer Dylan Gardner and others.

Deal significance: A “ground-breaking” collocated public and private hospital is how the project was described by Gilbert + Tobin.

“The hospital is one of the more significant investments in public health infrastructure in recent times,” the firm’s statement said, as well as being “the first of its kind in terms of delivery model and payment structure”.

Located in Frenchs Forest and to be known as Northern Beaches Hospital, the new hospital will relocate acute services from Mona Vale Hospital and Manly Hospital.

It will form part of the broader Northern Beaches Health Service redevelopment, with Healthscope to provide public patient services for the next 20 years.

Now at operational readiness, the four-year redevelopment includes a nine-story hospital on a 6.5-hectare site with 488 beds, 1,400 car spaces and a helipad.

Mr Danne said he was proud to have worked with Healthscope and transaction partner NSW health infrastructure on the project transaction.

Expressing his delight, Mr Danne said the firm’s experience in innovative project structuring “has helped deliver a successful outcome for our client Healthscope.

“This new hospital will bring the services, quality and efficiency of the private sector to important public services, and will give the Australian market further confidence in the possibilities offered by structured infrastructure and the PPP sector,” he noted.

“It will also give Healthscope a further strengthened platform of collocated assets and market-leading experience.”
