Mr O’Brien is described as a long-standing partner of Minters, having specialised in corporate and financial litigation and reconstruction law during his time spent at the firm’s Brisbane office.
“David is our longest-serving board member, and is focused on ensuring the board and management team continues to drive this momentum under his leadership,” Mr Cowley said.
“The firm is lucky to have David step in and continue to build on the great success that the firm has had over the past six years.”
Retiree Mr Cowley has been Minters’ partnership chair for six years, taking to the firm in 1981 and becoming a part of the partnership in 1987.
During his time in the post, he had worked with three MinterEllison CEOs: John Weber, Tony Harrington and now Annette Kimmitt.
“Bruce has been critical to the success of MinterEllison and has guided us to where we are today,” Mr O’Brien said.
“Under Bruce’s leadership, we are now the largest law firm in Australia.”
