Daniel Kirk, formerly of Dentons’ Perth office, and Chris Taylor, from Baker McKenzie’s Melbourne office, have both joined Mills Oakley, having started their new roles this week.

Mr Kirk brings over 20 years of M&A and equity capital markets experience, having worked at Slaughter and May in London and as a partner at King & Wood Mallesons prior to his time at Dentons. Mr Taylor, Mills Oakley said, adds a “diverse” client base for the firm, with his practice spanning the technology, manufacturing and packaging, infrastructure, health, agribusiness and education sectors.

The hires form part, Mills Oakley CEO John Nerurker said, of the firm’s strategy to grow its corporate capability.

“Despite the current subdued transactional environment, we believe in planning for the future,” he said.

“The Mills Oakley corporate practice has always been an [engine room] for growth in other parts of the firm and the arrival of Chris and Daniel will further enhance the team’s offering.”

Speaking about his decision to join Mills Oakley, Mr Taylor said that he was “impressed” by the corporate capabilities of the national firm.

“The market for transactional work in Australia is highly competitive and in making the move it was important to me to have absolute confidence in the quality, fit and market position of the practice I was joining,” he said.

“In Mills Oakley, I know that I am joining a dynamic, entrepreneurial and ambitious firm which is a perfect fit for my practice.”

Mr Kirk added that he was attracted by the firm’s collaborative culture: “Mills Oakley stands out because of its coordinated, integrated approach.”

“I am delighted to be joining a firm which has not only a national footprint, but a collegiate culture which actively encourages collaboration across offices and practices,” he said.
